Body

Reporting a Lost, Stolen, Found, or Pawned University iPad

Report a university-managed iPad that has been lost, stolen, found, or acquired through channels such as pawn shops, thrift stores, online marketplaces, or other third-party sources.

Overview

Information Technology Services (ITS) supports university-managed iPads issued through university programs and departments.

If a university-managed iPad has been lost, stolen, found, or acquired through channels such as online marketplaces, pawn shops, thrift stores, or other third-party sources, report the incident immediately by submitting an iPad Services request.

Prompt reporting helps protect university information, allows ITS to begin appropriate security measures, and assists with recovery efforts.

Report the Incident Immediately

Do not wait to see if the iPad turns up. Reporting the incident as soon as possible allows ITS to begin tracking, securing, and documenting the device. A police report is required for lost and stolen university-managed iPads and should be attached to the iPad Services request.

Incident Types

Lost

Select Lost if you are unable to locate the iPad and believe it has been misplaced.

Include the last known location and approximate date the device was last seen.

A police report must be filed for a lost university-managed iPad. Attach a copy of the police report when submitting the iPad Services request. Providing the report upfront will help ITS begin the review process more efficiently.

Stolen

Select Stolen if you believe the iPad has been intentionally taken without authorization.

Provide as much information as possible regarding the incident.

A police report is required for a stolen university-managed iPad. Attach a copy of the police report when submitting the iPad Services request. ITS may coordinate with University Police or other departments when appropriate.

Found

Select Found if a previously missing university-managed iPad has been recovered or if you have located a university-managed iPad that does not belong to you.

Provide the current location of the device and any additional information that will assist ITS. Do not attempt to erase, reset, sell, or transfer the device.

Pawned or Acquired Through a Third Party

Select Pawned if you have located a university-managed iPad at a pawn shop or acquired it through another third-party source, such as a thrift store, online marketplace, resale platform, surplus sale, or similar location.

Please provide:

  • Name of the business, marketplace, seller, or location where the iPad was found or acquired
  • Business address, website, or listing information, if known
  • Purchase information, receipt, or screenshot of the listing, if available
  • Any additional information that may assist ITS

Information to Include

When submitting your request, provide as much information as possible.

  • Device ownership type (such as an Amped Up student iPad, employee-assigned iPad, or department-owned iPad)
  • Last known location
  • Approximate date of the incident
  • Serial number (if known)
  • University asset tag (if known)

  • Name and location of the business, marketplace, seller, or third-party source, when applicable

What Happens After the Report?

Depending on the circumstances, ITS may:

  • Review university asset records.
  • Verify device ownership.
  • Coordinate with Enterprise Endpoint Management.
  • Document the incident for university records.
  • Coordinate with University Police or other university departments when appropriate.
  • Review police reports, receipts, listings, or other documentation provided with the request.
  • Provide additional guidance based on the status and location of the device.

Important Information

  • Report lost or stolen devices immediately.
  • A police report is required for all lost and stolen university-managed iPads and should be attached to the request.
  • Personal iPads are not supported through this process.
  • Department-owned iPads remain the responsibility of the owning department for repair or replacement.
  • Do not attempt to personally recover a device from a seller, pawn shop, thrift store, online marketplace, or other third party. Contact law enforcement when appropriate.
  • ITS may request additional information before processing the request.
