SMTP Relay Configuration Directions

Overview

This document will go over the process of configuring an application or device to utilize NCAT's SMTP mail relays.

Approval

As a prerequisite, a request for SMTP relay access will need to be approved. SMTP traffic will not be relayed until the request has been approved.

To make a request for SMTP relay access, please navigate to the IT Service Desk, select Submit a Ticket, select the Email Services category, and then select the SMTP Relay Request service. Choose the Request Service option and submit the ticket.

Once approved, the procedure outlined below can be followed.

Application / Device Configuration

The exact steps will vary depending on the application or device that is being configured. Please navigate to area where SMTP mail relay options are listed.

The following information will be needed:

SMTP mail relay hostname: smtp-prod.ncat.edu
SMTP mail relay port: 587
SMTP mail relay username: <Provided in SecureShare message>
SMTP mail relay password: <Provided in SecureShare message>

With the above settings saved, please test sending an email.

Troubleshooting

If the email is not sent successfully, please re-open the ticket, and include any errors that were displayed.
