9Line Emergency Services: How to Set Your Location in Jabber

Summary

An explanation of the "9Line" Jabber extension and how users can access Jabber and set their Emergency Services location after 9Line has been deployed.

Body

This Knowledge Base article will help Jabber users use the 9Line extension to set their location for Emergency Services calls.

Overview

9Line is a Jabber extension that allows the user to set their location such that, when making 911 calls, your location can be shared with Emergency Services.
The following guide will walk you through accessing Jabber after 9Line’s implementation in addition to customizing your location.

Steps
  1. On Initial Jabber login, you may receive a Security Certificate warning.
If so, click “Yes” to accept the Security Certificate

  2. After clicking Yes on the Certificate warning, or following Jabber log-in if you do not encounter a Certificate warning, you will be presented with a notice regarding 911 location information sharing.
  3. After clicking “OK” on the Emergency Number Notice, click the Line911 Gadget icon at the bottom of the left-hand toolbar.
If you have multiple Jabber profiles registered to your account, you may have to select which device you’re currently using:

    1. Jabber for PC: Device profile name will start with “CSF
    2. Jabber for iPhone: Device profile name will start with “TCT
    3. Jabber for Android: Device profile name will start with “BOT"
    4. Jabber for iPad: Device profile name will start with “CSF"

  4. After selecting the device, log into 9Line with SSO using your OneID credentials (same username and password as your e-mail).
  5. After logging in via SSO with your University email address and password, you may need to manually set your device’s location.
To do so, click “Assign a location to this device”
  6. If your device is being used at a Campus location, you may select one of the pre-configured locations from the provided list.
However, if you’re working remotely, you may need to add a custom location using the “Add Location” button.
  7. When creating a Custom Location, you should ensure the “Private” toggle is enabled so that other users cannot view your custom location.
  8. Should you need to change your device’s location in the future, you may click the “Update Location” button to re-select a location from the location list or create and select a new Custom Location.
