The Linux Administration General Request service provides assistance with Linux servers and operating systems managed by Information Technology Services (ITS). This service is intended for Linux administration requests that do not fall under a more specific service offering.

Purpose

This service ensures that faculty, staff, and authorized users can obtain support for University-managed Linux systems. It provides a central request path for administrative tasks, troubleshooting, maintenance activities, and operational support involving Linux servers and operating systems.

Details

Use this service when assistance is needed with any of the following:

  • Linux server administration
  • User account creation, modification, or removal
  • File system permission changes
  • Software installation and updates
  • Service configuration and troubleshooting
  • System performance investigations
  • Log analysis and review
  • Scheduled maintenance requests
  • Package installation and updates
  • Shell scripting assistance
  • General Linux operating system support

To help the Linux Administration team process requests efficiently, provide the following information when submitting a ticket:

  • Server name or hostname
  • Environment (Production, Test, Development, etc.)
  • Operating system version (if known)
  • Detailed description of the request or issue
  • Date and time the issue began (if applicable)
  • Relevant error messages, logs, or screenshots
  • Business impact and urgency

After a request is submitted:

  • The request will be assigned to the Linux Administration team.
  • A technician may contact you for additional information.
